Honoring the gods and spirits.

Hello everyone!

This week, Sunday November 25th, from 10 am- 12 pm, we’ll be discussing what we do, and can do to honor the gods, our ancestors, and the spirits of this land, both in ceremony and in our every day lives.

We’ve also welcomed a couple new puppies into our household, so there may be minor distractions from them, but so far they are generally calm.

These discussions and workshops are offered free of charge, however monetary offerings and and tokens of appreciation are welcome, and will help to provide the food offered, and counterbalance any material expenses.

Each week we will begin with a short check in to see how everyone is, and to see if there are any pressing subjects or burning questions we should address later. This will be followed by a short period of silent or guided meditation, and an opportunity to leave an offering or prayer to the gods, ancestors, or spirits.

If there are no pressing subjects or burning questions we then move on to the subject of the day. This may mean that we’ll have a hands on work shop, a discussion, or possibly an activity or craft related to an upcoming holiday.

You are welcome as long as you are respectful of my home, of those who attend, and of everyone’s privacy, and you are joining us with a genuine willingness to learn and explore.

I only ask that you preregister with me, and communicate when you plan on attending in advance.

I too will communicate when I will be unable to host, or attend as well.

Until I have figured out how to add a registration form to my website, please email me at chad@kelly-web.com with the below information. Keep in mind I ask of you only what I will provide to you of myself.

Happy Samhain?!?! Wasn’t that a week ago?

Many blessings to you and yours!

November 6th 2018, is the eve of the astronomical cross-quarter day of Samhain.

I began to observe Samhain on the astronomical cross-quarter over 15 years ago after I was wandering late one night. At this time I was already an experienced and practicing shaman.  As the night grew later I could feel that which divided the worlds slowly growing weaker. I knew the day I was taught this would happen had already passed, but here it was, almost a week later.  I… had questions.

I spent the following days pondering this. I knew that our calendar system was the cause of many holidays being shifted from their original dates, and I wondered if this could also be true with Samhain. IF this was the case, then it could be that what I was feeling was the day it should have been observed, and could have been observed by my ancestors before we adopted this calendar.

If the other sacred holidays of my ancestors were the solstices and equinoxes, then shouldn’t this night/day be the one that is directly between them? I sat down, looking up the days and times of the autumnal equinox and winter solstice, and did some math. It turned out that night, the one I felt was Samhain, was truly the eve of the astronomical cross-quarter! (of course I was excited about this discovery, but I was certainly not the first to work this out)

From that day forward I began to observe the cross-quarter holidays on their astronomical dates instead of the commonly observed dates. This had the added bonus of being able to observe the secular holidays like Halloween with my friends and family!

This year for Samhain myself and a small group of friends and family are having a simple, and short, memorial service for our dearly departed. We will toast and libate to each of our loved ones who have passed from this world, and ask blessings for the year ahead from our ancestors, the gods of our ancestors, and the spirits of this land.

My daughter will be gifted with a memorial talisman which contains some ashes of our beloved canine companion who passed away, and we will request that he watch over and protect her in the years to come.

If you’d like to be invited to future events like this, please don’t hesitate to contact me!

Seeker/Basics Classes starting January!

Health and blessings to you!

Starting in January of 2018 I will be offering a basics class.

The goal of this class is to provide a well rounded basic education to anyone interested in paganism or the spiritual arts.  It will be held weekly, and last approximately 6 months.  The foundation of these classes are the Triskellion Basic classes written by Ken Ra, with some additions and alterations to encompass a broader world view, and to reflect my personal teaching style and experiences.

Many years ago, back in 2002, I took the Triskellion Basics course with Ken Ra and upon completion I was licensed to teach these classes, and to modify, use or exclude them from my teachings, as long as I was giving credit to him for the work of his that I used.   There is great value in the time, effort, and thought he put into the preparation and writing of these classes and I am honored to be able to offer you these classes with the addition of my own experiences and world view.

If you are interested in these classes, or curious to learn more about them or myself, please don’t hesitate to email me or message me on Facebook!
